RAINN needs volunteers to staff its hotline.

Beer Can Hill is participating in Blogathon 2009 by updating twice an hour, for 24 hours, today. Proceeds are going to RAINN.

Help me blog for RAINN this Saturday.

Hey Everyone,

I need your help. As you know, I am very invested in the fight to end sexual assault, and today, I have made a commitment to actually step up and make a difference.

On July 25th, I will be participating in the Day of Blogs. This means that every hour for 24 hours straight, I will post an entry on Beer Can Hill. I need your help by signing up to sponsor each hour of blogging that I complete. The amount of your sponsorship is completely up to you, but please know that 100% of the funds raised will go directly to helping victims of sexual assault.

RAINN
– Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, is a charity that has made a powerful impact in the lives of over 1.2 million people who have endured such tragedy. As the largest national anti-sexual assault organization, RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) and the Online Hotline. The help is free, live, anonymous, and available around the clock.

Helping victims of sexual assault is something that means a lot to me, and it makes me feel great that I can help raise money and awareness for RAINN through creative written expression. It is my belief that connecting with RAINN may be the first step toward becoming a survivor, and you can be a part of connecting victims to these vital resources right now.

Please help me in my fundraising efforts to support this worthy cause.

Thank you in advance,

Carrie Burrows

Wear Denim Jeans Today.

Denim Days began in 1999, after an Italian court ruled that a rape victim could not have possibly been raped because she was wearing jeans at the time of the assault. The court felt that if the victim had on jeans, rather than a dress or skirt, she had the opportunity to fight back because jeans would’ve been harder for an attacker to remove.

Sexual violence does not discriminate. Men, women, children, the elderly, and the disabled are subjected to it on a daily basis throughout the world. It’s a symptom of both ignorance and psychopathy.

More information about rape myths are available here.

Blog Action Day 2008

Today is Blog Action Day 2008 for Poverty. I was late to register so I don’t have any sponsors. The site has a list of 88 ways to combat poverty.

Jay White has a good piece about the topic over on Dumb Little Man.
