Eleanor emailed me this picture. I don’t remember when it was taken but judging from the tattoos that are and are not on my arms, it was late 2007 or early 2008.

She has been bugging me all day about getting her driver’s license.
It’s mind-blowing to think about how Roxanne has been around for most of my life, age 13 to now at 29.

I’m the worst parent ever. My six year old is up at midnight, watching South Park, and repeating a lot of what she hears.

We’ve gained another sponsor! (The sponsor is not a parrot.)

I asked MayhemFest’s protesters if I can picket their next Promise Keepers or Billy Graham rally.
(They said no.)

I am not a tattooist. I am not selling an Illiger’s macaw. I have not been kicked out of Blogathon 2009, unless if somebody just failed to tell me. I do not have “free” videos of Madison Mitchell, or anyone else, having sex. I do not know who Cherry Dollface is or is not married to. Russian tortoises need to eat vegetables and a little bit of fruit.
Thank you, that will be all.

I saw these boars by the roadside in rural Monterey county a few weeks ago. They were not afraid of us.

I decided to support RAINN in this year’s Blogathon for pretty plain reasons. I worked as a victim advocate and crisis counselor in hospital emergency rooms from 2001 to 2003. People I love with all of my heart have endured incest, rape, and sexual abuse. And I survived sexual violence myself.
I seldom discuss the details about what happened to me. Due to what’s referred to as “burn-out”, I no longer regularly volunteer for the cause and I don’t frequent support forums either. I spend so much time NOT talking about the past, I figured I could set aside one day out of the year to think and blog about the subject in a way that would benefit someone else.
I won’t, however, be blogging specifically about rape every 30 minutes. Who the hell is going to want to read that after two hours ? I certainly don’t want to blog exclusively on the topic either. I’ve noticed that when something really bad happens in a person’s life that sometimes they somehow get tagged with the event. I don’t want that to happen. I’m still Carrie. This is still Beer Can Hill.
From what I understand, people can sponsor me for up to 48 hours after 6 AM PST on July 26. Hopefully you will never need RAINN’s services, but it would be great if they were there for the people who do.

Hey Everyone,
I need your help. As you know, I am very invested in the fight to end sexual assault, and today, I have made a commitment to actually step up and make a difference.
On July 25th, I will be participating in the Day of Blogs. This means that every hour for 24 hours straight, I will post an entry on Beer Can Hill. I need your help by signing up to sponsor each hour of blogging that I complete. The amount of your sponsorship is completely up to you, but please know that 100% of the funds raised will go directly to helping victims of sexual assault.
RAINN – Rape Abuse and Incest National Network, is a charity that has made a powerful impact in the lives of over 1.2 million people who have endured such tragedy. As the largest national anti-sexual assault organization, RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) and the Online Hotline. The help is free, live, anonymous, and available around the clock.
Helping victims of sexual assault is something that means a lot to me, and it makes me feel great that I can help raise money and awareness for RAINN through creative written expression. It is my belief that connecting with RAINN may be the first step toward becoming a survivor, and you can be a part of connecting victims to these vital resources right now.
Please help me in my fundraising efforts to support this worthy cause.
Thank you in advance,
Carrie Burrows

Thomas is a cinnamon-gray cockatiel. He was hatched and handfed by For The Birds in Bakersfield,California. He came to live with me in 2007. He enjoys hanging upside down with Trina and swinging on his blue swing. He does not like sunflower seeds and will hiss at you if you cluck at him. He whistles several different tunes…but only when he feels like it!
My trip to Monterey,California was amazing.

I tested and proved my theory that Carmel weddings need Jack Daniels.

There were pit bulls.

And I made lots of new friends!

Rusty had an extensive conversation with Friday night’s thunderstorm.

I had a few damaged inches layered and cut off of my hair.

The trumpet vine on is in full bloom.

So is the pecan tree, where I hide the bird bath.

I am trying to grow my own tomatoes.

Jennie loves supervising the yard work.

And, unlike the rest of us on Beer Can Hill, Merlin loves the hot weather.

My interview with Erik Sprague The Lizard Man will be up!
